Raman Kaur has entered this work into the 2024 edition of our Seeing the Soul Art Prize and Exhibition and has donated it to the Sanctuary for us to raise funds and help support our mental health programs.

Artist statement: This artwork is inspired by womens’ struggles and wins against domestic abuse and mental health battles. Still, in this century, some young girls are growing up in very conservative families where they are conditioned to put up with abuse. As grown-up women they struggle to understand their own emotions and try to hide their faces behind the makeup, some use makeup to hide their bruises, but inside they have that innocent little bird which wants to break free. This artwork celebrates the victory of all those brave strong woman, against their own mental prison.
