Name of work: Life Source

Medium: Ink on canvas

Dimensions: 45cm (W) x 61cm (H)

Artist statement: Life Source uses a combination of traditional Chinese splash-ink and Western gestural abstraction techniques. The interplay between which reflects the intersection of my cultural roots and the dynamically evolving contemporary landscape. The large-area microscopically visualized rock accumulations in the work present a sense of history. It resonates with the diversity of my fluid personal journey and Australia’s evolving multicultural experience. The coral-like crown tissue at the bottom of the work reveals one of the important crises in the decline of global ecosystems – coral bleaching caused by global warming. The dark edge line serves as the connection between humans and animals, outlining the characteristics of female human’s breasts, giving the overall appearance the visual effect of a human female breast sculpture bred from a coral reef group growing from a water drop. It makes life-giving elements of soul, such as water, women and sea creatures, visible.
