Our move to Andersons Road in Yandina went as well as we could have hoped for last week. It was a long, emotional, physically and psychologically draining couple of weeks but the important thing is that all the horses travelled well and are safe and happy in their new home.
Our AMAZING volunteer team pulled together like never before to get the job done just in time. Our tenure at Fellowship Drive ended at 5pm on Friday and our last convoy of trailers and horse floats full of boxes and equipment rolled out at 4:55pm.
Everything we own is stashed inside a shipping container, a portable office and the sheds and houses of our volunteer team scattered across the Coast.
We have SO many people to thank for their incredible help with this huge task – keep an eye on our social media feeds for a slew of gratitude posts over the coming days.
Exhausted from the move, we were looking forward to a bit of rest and recuperation this week but Cyclone Alfred has other things in mind.
This is our worst-case scenario – one of the main reasons that we didn’t want to move to the Andersons Rd site is that it is flood land – and this week it will be severely tested.
Our beautiful equine therapy herd will not have their amazing stable block to take shelter in. Instead, they’ll all be huddled under a single shade shed. The drainage works and shelter that Council has committed to build is already running behind schedule and unlikely to be ready for several months.
With no power supply at the site, we’ll be reliant on torches to check on the herd and do any running repairs.
Today, tomorrow and Wednesday are being spent weighing down and securing as much as we can – with so little storage space we have so many things stored on pallets under tarps – all of which is at risk.
More than likely, the property will flood and we’ll need to bring in plenty of mulch to make-safe the wettest/muddiest areas and give the horses some dry footing. We’ll need fuel for a generator that has been lent to us, spare batteries for the torches, extra hay and bedding for the horses as well as food and water for the volunteers sitting it out with the herd.
We would appreciate any support that you could provide to help us with the additional costs that will come this week. Not only will your support help us financially but it will give our team the extra boost that they so desperately need right now. You can make a donation online or via bank transfer. All donations of $2 and over are tax deductible.
